Taster Workshops at the Eastbourne Festival

Eastbourne FestivalHave you ever wanted to try hand at art but you’re not sure where to start? Then come and join the Catalyst Arts tutors for a selection of Taster workshops.  Created for people of all ages and ability these workshops will suit if you want to get a flavour of the type of art you may be interested in doing in the future. If you a beginner or an experienced artist then come and see what’s available.

Patterns in Embroidery with Barbara Walters on Saturday 30th April 10.00am-1.00pm.
In this embroidery workshop you will learn some of the many and varied embroidery stitches that make patterns – crossed stitches, detached stitches, woven wheels, whipped stitches ….. Use your favourite colours to produce a vibrant modern ‘sampler’.  Whether you are an absolute beginner or have been embroidering for years this workshop will give you the opportunity to explore pattern making in fabric and thread.

Barbara Walters is a freelance artist and lecture and is the recently retired Chairman of East Sussex Branch of the Emboiderers’ Guild.

Painting for Children with Peri Kusadali on Saturday 7 May 2-4pm

An opportunity for 7-12 year olds to find out more about the Austrian painter and architect, Hundertwasser. At this workshop children will be given the opportunity to experiment with colour and a variety of media, creating art works inspired by him..

Mixed Media with Liz Brown on Friday 6th May 10am-1pm
This workshop will begin with a brief introduction on the history of mixed media.  Then by observing tutor demonstrations, students will explore different ways of applying mixed media.

Adventures in Acrylics with Nicholas Englefield on Saturday 14th May 10.00am-1.00pm
Come and learn how to paint using acrylics. At this workshop you will learn how to develop from a a few tubes a tonal picture in acrylics by following the tutors demonstrations and receiving helpful hints on the way.
